I hate coming home from vacation. The trip is such an antithesis of the trip heading to the vacation. The excitement is replaced by dread. The happiness is replaced by discontent. And rolling all those miles home is like marching to my doom.
Ok, maybe I’m a little over the top with that first paragraph. The thing is I really don’t want to go back to work on Monday. I know I will have a ton of work to catch up on and who knows what disaster awaits me.
We arrived home at about 2:30am after a very long drive. I unloaded my stuff from the Sidmobile and dropped it in the living room and hit the hay. Now it is time to unpack my duffle bag.
The week down in Myrtle Beach was awesome, although we did not end up doing any surfing. Maybe next time the weather and ocean will cooperate.

I borrowed Surfin’ Sid’s metal detector and hit the beach. Not to much luck. I think the problem is the location. The Marriott resort we are staying at is away from the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach.
I spent about 45 minutes on the beach with the metal detector and only found a paper clip. It was a nice new shiny one but it sure wasn’t worth the effort. I did meet some folks who asked me how I was doing. And the sunset lit up the clouds. And I did get some exercise. Maybe next time I’ll try it down where there is more traffic.

My turn to cook. I decided on lasagna. I guess I’m not the most talented chef.
I think I’ll set the stage a minute. Last year another one of the beach bums made lasagna. It turned out very, very, very soupy. But it was very good. As we kidded about the soupiness of the lasagna someone made the comment Lasagna Pond. By then we were howling with laughter. And the name stuck.
I have no idea why but my lasagna turned out the same way. Very, very very soupy. So it was christened The Return of Lasagna Pond. Again it tasted good but so soupy you almost needed a bowl and a spoon.

As the weather man predicted the temp has fallen the last two days. We had frost warnings over night. But at least there is no snow in the forecast like they got back in Michigan. Despite the cool weather we have been spending time in the hot tubs…it is a long walk back to the building with high winds trying to freeze our extremities.
Looks like we will take a road trip to Hilton Head today. Should be fun.

Driving from West Virginia to Myrtle Beach took about seven hours including stopping for food and gas. We could feel the van warming up the further south we went. When we arrived the temperature was 72 degrees. Excellent!
We went directly to the resort even though the check in time wasn’t until 3:00 pm hoping that they would have our villa ready. Our luck was working for us as we were able to check in. So up to the room we went. It happened to be the exact room we had last year except four floors lower. The view was still very good, although not as good as last year.
After unpacking Surfin’ Sid and I went to the local Kroger to purchase food for the week. The rest of the crew hit the beach. The food plan was the same as last year, to eat our meals in the villa. Last year that plan saved a ton of money.
After arriving back to the room with the groceries, Sid and I met up with the others and played catch with a frisbee until we decided to relax in the hot tub next to the pool.
A great first day in Myrtle Beach

Surfin’ Sid and the gang really razzed me because I was due home at 12:30 for the road trip to Myrtle Beach for spring break. Unfortunately things at work got a bit hectic so I wasn’t able to leave right on time like I wanted. I was about ten minutes late and heard all about it. I quickly ran in the house and grabbed my bags that I packed the night before and tossed them in the back of the Sidmobile.
The Garmin GPS that Surfin’ Sid bought this year at the Circuit City Going out of Business Sale, took us on a much different route than we took last year. We made good time on the new route and arrived in Beckley, WV fairly close to the original estimated time.
The journey consisted of lots of teasing [mostly against me because I was late] and reminiscing about last year’s beach bum getaway. Shout outs about Lasagna Pond and Stevie the Wonder Horse had us in stitches.
Sid the slave driver mandated a 6:00 am departure. So I set my alarm for 5:30 but it didn’t work…some how I woke up at 5:38 and was able to pull myself together by 6:00. The reason for the early departure was the weather forecast for the week. Looks like the week will be kinda cool [Bummer] but tomorrow is going to be a great day.
Surfin’ Sid wanted to get to Myrtle Beach as early as possible to enjoy the warm weather as much as possible.
Later Dudes.
